The stigma is the female receptive surface of the flower. Pollen lands on the stigma and germinates ultimately fertilizing the plant. 

In Mimulus, the stigma is sensitive to touch and closes immediately after contact. Interestingly, if the touch delivers pollen, the stigma will remain closed, while if no pollen is delivered, the stigma will reopen after a few minutes.

The cucumber plant uses a tendril as a lasso to grab ahold of a support and anchor itself. This arrangement allows the cucumber lang to focus energy previously spent on structural support on other processes (e.g. reproduction).  (video by josh puzey)
